Privacy Policy

Parlez is an iOS app that helps you improve your French pronunciation. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Parlez is operated by Toggle Media, LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("Toggle Media", "we", "us").

Information we collect

Voice recordings

Parlez's core feature is evaluating how you pronounce French phrases. To do that, the app records short audio clips of you speaking and sends them to our servers, where our accent model analyzes them and returns a score. Unless you opt out, we retain a copy to help improve future versions of the model (see below).

Usage and device information

We collect information about how you use the app — which activities you play, how long you practice, your scores, and your streaks — along with basic device and diagnostic information (device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, approximate region based on IP).

Purchase information

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple shares with us a purchase token and subscription status (via RevenueCat, our subscription management provider) — we do not receive or store your payment card details.

How we use your information

• To provide the Parlez service: score your recordings, track your progress, and personalize the experience.
• To improve the service: diagnose bugs, measure feature usage, and understand what's working.
• To train and improve our accent model. We use anonymized voice recordings to retrain and improve future versions of the model that powers Parlez. This is described in more detail below.
• To communicate with you: service announcements, support responses, and, if you've opted in, occasional product updates.
• To comply with the law and protect our users.

Using your recordings to train future models

Parlez is an accent-coaching app, and its usefulness depends on how well its model understands a wide range of speakers. Recordings from real users are the single most important input to that model.

By using Parlez, you grant Toggle Media a worldwide, royalty-free license to use your voice recordings — in anonymized form — to train, evaluate, and improve our accent-scoring models and related machine-learning systems. "Anonymized" means we remove identifiers (such as device ID and IP address) before a recording enters any training dataset, and we do not attempt to re-associate recordings with you.

You should still be aware that a human voice is identifiable by its sound, even without metadata attached, and we cannot claim perfect anonymization in the biometric sense. We treat training data with care, store it encrypted, and restrict access to authorized personnel.

You can opt out of having your recordings used for model training at any time:

• In the app, under Settings → Privacy → "Use my recordings for model training," toggle this off. New recordings made with this setting off will not be added to training datasets.
• To request removal of recordings already captured before you opted out, email us at info@hellotoggle.com and we will remove them from active training pools. (Copies already embedded in trained model weights cannot be extracted, but will not be used in future training runs.)

Opting out does not affect your ability to use Parlez — every feature of the app continues to work.

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers who help us run Parlez, including Google Cloud (hosting and storage), RevenueCat (subscription management), and analytics/crash-reporting tools. These providers are bound by contract to use your data only to provide services to us.
• Apple, to the extent Apple is involved in App Store distribution, subscription billing, and Sign in with Apple.
• Law enforcement or regulators, when we are legally required to do so, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Toggle Media or our users.
• A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy.

Data retention

We retain recordings for as long as they are useful for improving the accent model. You can request deletion at any time by emailing info@hellotoggle.com, and we will remove them within 30 days. Copies already incorporated into an anonymized training dataset may persist, without links back to you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your personal information.
• Object to or restrict certain processing (including model training, as described above).
• Export your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent where we rely on consent.

EU/UK users

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, voice recordings may be considered biometric data under GDPR. Where that is the case, we rely on your explicit consent (given when you first record in the app) as the legal basis for processing. You can withdraw that consent at any time via the in-app opt-out or by emailing us, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.

Toggle Media is based in the United States; when your data is transferred there, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved mechanisms.

California users

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit the use of sensitive personal information. Voice recordings qualify as sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Children

Parlez is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

No system is perfectly secure, but we do our best, and if something goes wrong we will tell you promptly as required by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect, and we will update the "Effective" date above.
